Kilgore Main Street

The heart and soul of The City of Stars!

The Historic Downtown Kilgore shopping district is a treasure trove for the antique lover and selective shopper searching outside our box stores. Stroll through our beautiful downtown and enjoy the unique shopping, friendly locals, and iconic scenery.

Kilgore was at the center of the legendary East Texas Oil Boom of the 1930’s and has a uniquely rich history tied to this time. Through the diligent work of the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation, the proposed cultural district offers many glimpses into this exciting past. Visitors to Historic Downtown Kilgore enjoy visiting the “World’s Richest Acre” commemorated with steel oil derricks topped with stars on the site of where over 2.5 million barrels of oil was discovered. They can also visit historic sites, homes, a railway station, and the East Texas Oil Museum to look back into Kilgore’s thrilling past. Along with historical attractions, there is a French inspired historic library (Kilgore Public Library), a Shakespeare garden, several historic churches, multiple restaurants, and antique shops.

Historic Downtown Kilgore is still booming with unique boutiques, local restaurants, and art deco architecture reminiscent of the oil boom period. The mix of restaurants truly provides an authentic culinary experience within the district. From burgers at The Back Porch & Char-burger Stockade – to portobello mushroom ravioli – the options are endless. Within walking distance of many of the attractions are two local Mexican restaurants including Edgars’ Big Taco #2 and Las Tejanita’s that have street tacos perfected. Val’s Italian restaurant is the perfect spot to view the oil derricks while eating pizza. Downtown D’Lites is a both a local and visitor favorite for lunch as they have daily soup, salad, sandwich and wrap specials. Jack Ryan’s Steak & Chophouse is a regional favorite for both lunch and dinner. Their lunch menu even has salads.

Rare and local goods can be found at the collection of local merchants from the plethora of antiques, unique gift, and more at The Shops on Main, to the handcrafted furniture at Eclectic Culture. Many shoppers travel to Kilgore for the retro and vintage experience that is on offer at Everything That Bling’s.

Calamity Janes Warbag is another popular stop while De Rigueur provides casual luxury clothing and accessories at its finest. Downtown Kilgore has something for everyone. From engaging history, charming shops, sophisticated restaurants and casual cafes.
