The impact that the discovery of oil and the legendary East Texas Oil Field had on the lives of the area’s residents can be explored at the East Texas Oil Museum at Kilgore College. The museum features a replica of a 1930s town called, Boomtown, USA, through full-size dioramas, films, sound, and mementos of the oil field. The Museum also includes; geological exhibits, equipment displays, and a simulated elevator ride that provides visitors with an explanation of how oil is formed in the earth as well under the surface. The museum located at US Highway 259 and Ross Streets on the Kilgore College campus, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday, 2-5 pm.
